It’s 7:30 in the morning. You just got ready for work. You are not even awake yet. So why should you bother taking the bike, when you have a car or a bus waiting for you right outside?

I’ll tell you!

I am a student assistant at Reelight, and I haven’t been cycling to work for a long time myself, so I’m not allowed to preach too much. However, I think it is okay to share why I believe taking the bike to work is worth it – even though you meet up all sweaty and without breath. Below I will share some points that I consider every time I am arguing with myself whether to take the bike or not.

  1. If you were not totally ready for the day before taking the bike, I will asure you that you are filled with energy when you arrive at work. It is a great way to wake up the body and the mind!

  2. You don’t have to think about working out when you get home in the afternoon – you’ve already done it! And there’s nothing better than to get home (again with a good load of energy from the ride home) and just do whatever you like instead of feeling like having to go to the gym.

  3. This one is mostly for the ones taking the bus. But you don’t have to sit in a hot overstuffed bus, with no fresh air. This is both annoying cause you get more tired, and also because you have to rely on others’ in order to make it to work in time.

  4. Let’s take a look at the FN world goals. By taking the bike I at least found two goals I could see myself contributing to on an individual level. Goal no. 11: Sustainable cities and communities and goal no. 13: Climate action.

So, what are you waiting for! It’s all good right? A way to make it easier is also by getting used to have a fresh set of clothes with you, or a good breathable jacket on in the cold months. Oh and don’t forget the helmet and the lights!
